Books To Read February | 2021

Hello, book lovers! 💕

I wasn’t really sure what books I wanted to read this month, so making a TBR was kind of difficult. And like last month, I don’t want to put too many books on this list so I don’t feel pressured to read all of the books. Plus this month is shorter, so I don’t want to make this TBR too ambitious.

Most of the time, at least in past years, I’d read romance books in February because of Valentine’s Day and all that. And yeah, I have a couple of those on this list but that’s not the only genre I’m sticking with this month.

Anyway, without any further ado, let’s get onto the books that I plan on reading (or at least trying to) this month!

I’ve actually started a book this month, though it’s a pretty short one and I should be able to finish it in a couple of days if I read it slowly. And that book is shine your icy crown by Amanda Lovelace. It’s a collection of poems that empower women and remind them that they don’t need a man in order to live a happy life.

I love all of the poetry collections that I’ve read by Amanda Lovelace, and this one is no different. I’m already halfway through, and I’m trying to take my time and enjoy each poem (even though some of them are really short).

I do want to read some romance books this month, so I plan on trying to read The Dating Plan by Sara Desai. I don’t know much about this book other than the main character doesn’t really have any interest in boyfriends or love, but her family expects her to get married. There’s a fake relationship involved that ultimately turns into more than that. And I’m here for it. I’m really excited to read this one at some point this month. Plus it has a really pretty cover, so there’s that. It doesn’t technically come out until March, but I got a copy from my Book of the Month subscription where they sometimes have early releases of books.

I’m going to roll over the only book that I didn’t read last month into this list, which is These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. I had this on last month’s TBR, and I really want to get to it. It’s a Romeo and Juliet retelling, so technically it’d be a good romance book. Especially since it’d be some kind of forbidden romance between the two main characters. But that’s all I really know about the book other than it’s set in Shanghai in 1926. Plus, I’ve heard some pretty good things about it on Goodreads.

I also want to continue the trend that I kind of set for myself last month where I read more classics. So I think this month I’m going to pick up Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I don’t know why I chose to read this one, other than it’s a classic that I read back in high school and one that I want to revisit. It also helps that I found it for free on a site called Project Gutenberg, where you can download a ton of classics that are in the public domain. I know it’d probably be better to read this book around Halloween, but I figured why not pick it up now?

The other trend that I want to continue this month is to read more comics and graphic novels. I have to fill the void inside me that was once Avatar. I had read the first volume of Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson probably five years ago or more at this point, and I thought maybe I’d pick it up again and try to continue on with the series. I remember enjoying the first volume, but never continuing. It’s another series that I can get through my library for free so I don’t have to spend as much on books (which is always a good thing, if you ask me).

I’ll start with reading the first volume this month, but who knows, I might wind up reading more if I get really into the story.

So those are the books that I want to try to read this month. Like I mentioned, there aren’t that many because not only is it a shorter month, but I also don’t want to put too much pressure on myself to read a ton of books. I want to be able to enjoy reading without making it feel like it’s mandatory.

What books are you planning on reading this month? Have you read any of the books that I mentioned? I’d love to chat about them in the comments below!
