Hello, book lovers! 💕
So I know this isn’t a book related post. But I wanted to talk about a TV show that has gotten me enthralled to the point where I haven’t been reading that much. It’s all I’ve been wanting to do – and I don’t normally watch TV that much, so this is a pretty big deal for me.
I don’t know what possessed me to look for a show on Netflix to watch, but that’s how I found myself one night. Scrolling literally through the abyss that is Netflix. And I stumbled upon Merlin. After reading Legendborn by Tracy Deonn, I have been interested in King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. And when I found Merlin, I was intrigued.

Then I started watching it. And I couldn’t stop. I was hooked. I was immersed. I was obsessed. It’s such a good show that I can’t focus on anything else, especially not reading.
I’m not sure how late to the bandwagon I am with this show considering it came out in 2008 and the show ended in 2012. But man, I wish I had started watching it sooner, though I’m really enjoying binge-watching it.
If you’re not aware of what this show is about, here is the synopsis from Google:

This action-packed fantasy-drama revisits the saga of King Arthur and his wizard, Merlin, by focusing on the two characters when they were ambitious young men struggling to understand their destinies. In this telling, Prince Arthur is known to be the heir to the throne (no sword from the stone here). And he is acquainted with all those who will one day form the legend of Camelot, including Lancelot, Guinevere, and Morgana. Merlin is also forced to deal with King Uther’s Great Purge, which bans all use of magic.
That right there was enough for me to start watching. And I haven’t stopped. It’s been less than a week and I’m on season four. Unfortunately there’s only five seasons, and I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself when I finish watching it. I’ve been watching it while I play on my Nintendo and while I draw. It’s basically taken the place of audiobooks for the time being.
Not that I’m complaining. I’m really enjoying this show, and I have no regrets. I love the magic and the adventures. And there’s a dragon that Merlin can talk to, which is really cool.

The story is so complex and intricate that I don’t think I’d be able to do it justice if I tried to explain it or what goes on in the show. There’s a lot of magic and mischief and adventures and shenanigans that Merlin and Arthur go on. Merlin is basically destined to protect Arthur, and it seems like everything and everyone is out to kill him. Which makes for a lot of action and nail-biting scenes.
So there you have it. I know this isn’t like my normal book-related posts, but I thought it’d be interesting to discuss a TV show considering it’s been all I’ve been wanting to do. Plus I feel like TV shows are really similar to books in the sense that they’re both stories, it’s just that one has visuals instead of just words.
It’s easy to get sucked into a new world, especially when I don’t have to think too much while watching. And sometimes that’s okay. Sometimes you need a break from reading in order to appreciate it when you go back to it.That doesn’t mean I’m not reading at all. I’ve been reading before bed and listening to audiobooks here and there.
Have you watched this show? I’d love to discuss it in the comments below!

I love Merlin! I started watching it when it came out and waiting for an episode each week and then the many months between seasons was absolutely killer! I’ve been meaning to binge watch the series again. So glad you enjoyed it! I always recommend the show to fantasy fans but some don’t bother because of it’s lighter humour and it isn’t super gritty, but I think it has so many amazing qualities and is just a wonderful show.

Yeah it’s definitely a good fantasy show, and I really like the light humor. It’s so much fun and I don’t know why I didn’t watch it sooner! Though I’m kind of glad that I don’t have to wait for each episode every week 🙈
