Let’s Talk Ebooks | Book Discussion

Hello, book lovers! 💕

I didn’t know what I wanted to talk about in today’s post. I actually struggled with it for quite a while before I decided to discuss ebooks considering I received a new Kindle for Christmas and have been pretty much obsessed with reading on it.

So that’s what I’m going to talk about. Rekindling (no pun intended) my love of ebooks.

Now, I have had a Kindle for years. I remember when I was a senior in high school (this is going back almost 10 years ago, which is crazy to think about) I bought my first Kindle with my own money that I earned from working a part time job after school everyday. I was so proud of myself, and I loved that Kindle. I read on it so much back then.

And for some reason, I fell out of love with reading ebooks over the past few years. I don’t really know what happened. I just know that I was reading more physical books, so my Kindle got put on the shelf for awhile. And that makes me sad to say.

But something made me want to start reading on it again. Which brings me to this past Christmas. I felt like it was time for an upgrade where my Kindle was concerned. So I asked for a new one for Christmas, and I got one. And boy let me tell you I’ve been doing so much reading on that thing these last few weeks.

I can’t get enough of it. I think my favorite part about reading ebooks on it is the fact that I can read in the dark. That’s always been the biggest perk of reading on an ereader for me. I love reading in the dark. Especially in bed at night. Which is when I’ve been getting the majority of my reading done. It’s so convenient to lay on my side with the lights off and read until I fall asleep. I don’t have to worry about having the light on, or sitting in maybe only two positions to read.

The only problem is that I’ve been going to bed really late, and by the time I start reading, I wind up falling asleep. So I really don’t get as much reading done at night as I would like, maybe 20 pages at the most. Which is why I’ve been reading so slowly. But that has nothing to do with ebooks and all to do with the fact that I need to recondition myself to reading during the day and not just in the wee hours of the morning.

But I don’t have to worry about small font sizes either with ebooks! That’s another thing I’ve been loving about them recently. I can change the font size. I hate when I buy physical books only to find out that the text is so tiny that I have to squint to read it. I can make the text as big or small as I want and don’t have to strain my eyes in the process of trying to read.

I’m not going to go into all of the pros and cons of ebooks because I feel like that’s for a different post. And it’s also kind of self-explanatory in a sense (pros: light-weight, carry multiple books, read in the dark, different font sizes, cheaper ebooks; cons: no smell or feel of the book, physically seeing how far into a book you are, seeing the book on your shelves).

So there you have it. My gush about ebooks and the fact that I absolutely love reading them (especially in the dark right before bed)! Do you like reading ebooks, or do you prefer physical books? I’d love to chat about this in the comments below!
