My Thoughts:
I’m still working my way through a bunch of reviews that I need to write. So expect at least one a week for the next month. I could post more often, but I don’t want to put too much stress on myself. I want to write quality reviews (at least for the most part).
But anyway, I think I hyped this book up in my head. Then again, I don’t think any book that Francesca Zappia has lived up to Eliza and Her Monsters, at least in my opinion. But there was something about this book that didn’t particularly wow me.
So I listened to this book on audiobook, and I really enjoyed it.The story overall was definitely a good spooky book to read in October (or any time really) because it deals with ghosts primarily. That was one of things that I really liked about the book; the ghost aspect really intrigued me. Zora, the main character, was a really badass character who didn’t take any shit from anyone. But what people didn’t know was that she could see ghosts (though she couldn’t talk to them, which I found interesting). She’s like a ghost whisperer and trying to uncover the mysteries of the fire starters.
as she tried to clear her name.
I really liked how strong and determined Zora was thought the story. She was blamed for arson, but Zora was determined to clear her name and uncover who the real threat was. In doing so, she causes a lot of chaos in the town.
Like I said, something about this book kept me from giving it 5 stars, but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is. The pacing was pretty good; I didn’t find myself bored at any point of the story.
The setting was interesting, especially when learning about the history behind the ghost hunting and fire starters.
But I wasn’t wowed by the end of it. It was a good story, don’t get me wrong. I’d definitely recommend picking it up. But it wasn’t life changing or anything. Entertaining, yes, but not over-the-top amazing. I liked it for what it was, even though I had higher expectations of it. I was a bit disappointed because I hyped it up in my head, so the disappointment was solely my fault.

Great review! This one has piqued my interest but makes me hesitate because of the ghost aspect 😂 Zora sounds like a great character though!
