Currently Reading | 11.6.2020

Hello, book lovers! 💕

The title of this post should probably be ‘Currently Not Reading’ because that’s what I’ve been doing. Not reading. I have a couple books that I started, and by started I mean I read maybe the first 20 pages of each. So I’m not far into them.

And I can make excuses left and right about why I haven’t read lately, but I feel like they’d be futile. I’m going to mention a few reasons anyway, just to give you an idea of where I’m coming from.

I think the most obvious reason is the fact that the election has taken over a lot of my brain space. It’s all I can think about (I’m sure a lot of people can say the same). I’m constantly checking the polls and results to see if there are any changes. I’m always scared to check in case there’s any negative results that I’m not ready to see. So far that hasn’t been the case, but that doesn’t mean anything yet. I feel like I’m constantly holding my breath.

I’ve also been really busy with my Etsy shop. I’m trying to get some new stickers and bookmarks ready for a winter update in the next couple weeks, and that’s taking so much time and energy. I’m enjoying drawing so much, but I can’t do much else when I do that unless I listen to audiobooks. But drawing so much helps relieve the stress of the election. But I don’t have the books I’ve tried starting on audiobook (I’ll get to those in a minute I promise) so I haven’t gotten any reading done.

This is how I’ve been feeling lately. Especially now that the weather’s getting colder.

Along with that, I’ve been feeling really off where I felt like I couldn’t do anything. I had really bad muscle and body aches, and I didn’t want to get off my bed. All this stress from the election (along with other personal reasons) were probably the cause of that. But the most I did was lay in bed and play video games. I realized that the DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield came out a week or so ago, and I’ve been playing that. Again, I don’t have an audiobook so I couldn’t read while I played.

So those are the reasons. Let’s get onto the books I’ve tried starting. I recently bought When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole. Like I’ve mentioned, I’m only 20 pages into it, so I don’t have much of an opinion on it yet. But I really want to read it because I’ve heard such good things.

I also have the ebook for A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn. Again, I’ve heard really good things about this book. I’m even less read of this book; I haven’t even gotten 10 pages into it.

But I’m hoping to get some reading done this weekend. I’m not going to hold myself to that because I don’t want to say that I’m going to read then not actually get much or any reading done (which has happened more often than not). But if I can get through at least half of one of these books, then I’d call it a success.

So there you have it. I’m sorry for such a mess of a post. I’ve had a weird week, and I hoping for a better one next week. Hopefully, I’ll be somewhat back to my normal self. Then again, that probably won’t happen with the way the world is right now. But anyway, those are the books that I’m (not) currently reading. What books are you currently reading? I’d love to discuss them in the comments below!

I am a twenty-something-year-old who is an avid reader. I love anything from young adult fantasy to adult fiction to young adult contemporary. I also love to play video games and draw and watch movies and TV shows. And this is my safe space where I can gush about everything I love.
