The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab | Book Review

My Thoughts:

I’m going to start off by saying that I think I have found another one of my favorite books. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would in a heartbeat.

I think that I’ve read a majority of V.E. Schwab’s books, and I especially enjoyed her Shades of Magic trilogy and her Villains series (I’m not sure how many books are going to be in the series, but the first two are out as of now). So I knew just from her previous books that I had to pick this one up.

I didn’t know it was even a thing until I saw Hannah from A Clockwork Reader mention it in a video on YouTube. And when I looked it up, I knew it was something that I’d be interested in. But I didn’t think that I would read it so soon after it was released (it was released on October 6th – I picked it up October 14th, which is a record for me).

But I picked up the audiobook, and I started listening to it. And I was immediately hooked.

I think my favorite part of the story was pretty much the entire premise of the book – a woman prays to the wrong god and makes a deal with the devil essentially. It’s such an intriguing concept, and V.E. Schwab executes it phenomenally in the story. And that was just the beginning of the rollercoaster of a ride that this book took me on.

I also loved how the chapters not only flipped from one point in time to another, but they also changed perspectives every so often. I loved seeing how everything connected from the past to the present so fluidly and that in and of itself kept me reading.

I don’t want to go into too much detail so I don’t spoil anything, but the love interest – I didn’t see any of what happened with him coming at all. If you’ve read this book, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

But that’s something that V.E. Schwab does really well – keeping the reader on his toes for pretty much the entire story, then throwing a curve ball out of nowhere. To say it shocked me and broke me with what happened between Addie and Henry is an understatement. It tore me apart.

So I loved this; I can’t think of anything that I didn’t like about this book. I would highly recommend picking it up, especially if you’re a fan of V.E. Schwab’s other books. And even if you have never read any of her other books – just read this.
