How I Read | Book Tag

Hello, book lovers! 💕

I originally saw this tag on Zezee with Books‘ blog, and though I wasn’t tagged by anyone, I decided it was a pretty fun tag that I could do. As they mentioned on their post, the creator of this tag is unknown, so if you have any ideas of who created it, I’d love to know!

So without further ado, let’s get onto the tag!

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I typically read on my bed in my room, though sometimes I do read on the couch if no one is home. Otherwise, it’s too loud and distracting to be able to get any reading done.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?

I prefer to stop reading after I finish a chapter, but that doesn’t always happen. So I’ve gotten used to stopping in the middle of a chapter. Though I do try to at least finish the page I’m on so I don’t stop in the middle of the page.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

I have an unhealthy obsession with bookmarks. I have way too many, and I have ones for certain occasions, like Halloween. But if I start a book and I don’t have a bookmark on me, I’ll use anything I can find in order to save my place, most likely a napkin or tissue.

Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

Sometimes I can listen to music while reading. I used to do that a lot when I was in high school. But now if I have any noise while reading, I get distracted. So the only type of music I listen to while reading is instrumental. It’s a good way of blocking out any other noises that I might hear around my house (like the TV in the other rooms or my family talking too loud).

Do you eat or drink while reading?

I keep a water bottle with me at all times because you gotta stay hydrated. And sometimes I’ll snack while I read. Though most of the time, I finish the snack before I open my book because I don’t want to get the book dirty or I’m too focused on what I’m eating in order to do both at the same time.

Reading at home or everywhere?

I pretty much bring a book with me everywhere, though that doesn’t mean I actually read it.

One book at a time or several at once?

Ahhhh this is something that I’ve been struggling with lately. I typically read only one book at a time, but lately I’ve been reading at the most two at a time. I don’t know why it’s been happening, and it’s never been something that I did before. But then again, one book is a physical book and the other is an audiobook. So I read them both at different times during the day.

Reading out loud or silently in your head?

I definitely read silently in my head. As I mentioned, I don’t like much noise while I’m reading, and I think if I were to read out loud, I’d be distracted and slowed down.

Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Nope, never.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

In the most ideal situations, I like my books to be as close to new as possible. But that being said, if the spine breaks or the cover gets bent, it’s not the end of the world for me. As long as the book is still legible, I’m happy. Plus, at least for paperbacks, I think a book that looks a little worn makes it look loved.

Do you write in your books?

I don’t, unless it’s a textbook for a class. For some reason, those types of books are the only ones I feel comfortable writing in.

Who do you tag?

Anyone who sees this and wants to do the tag.

    1. That’s so interesting! For me, it’s only when music with lyrics is playing because instead of reading the book, I wanna sing along with whatever song is playing. I can’t get as distracted with instrumental.
