Books to Read May | 2020

Hello, book lovers! 💕

So it’s already May, and I’m still blown away by how fast this year is going. But on top of that, I’m not sure if I want to do a TBR this month. I honestly think I was burned out from last month since I had to stick to one so strictly with the Magical Readathon. Not that I didn’t enjoy the books I read, or the readathon. But I’m a mood reader, and I don’t always feel like reading what I put on my TBRs for the month.

That being said, I’m going to give myself a few books I want to read this month, but I’m not going to push myself to read one if I don’t feel like reading it. So none of the following books are set in stone by any means.

To start off this month, I definitely plan on finishing Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin. I started it last month and got probably a quarter of the way through it. I’m really enjoying it so far, so this is one I can see myself finishing pretty quickly.

I picked it up mainly because it’s a reimagining of how WWII ended. Being someone who finds WWII kind of interesting, I thought I’d give it a try. And from what I’ve read so far, it’s really intriguing. Especially since it basically follows a girl trying to win a race in order to kill Hitler. And I’m living for it so far.

The books I read after Wolf by Wolf are pretty up in the air. Mainly because I don’t know what I’m in the mood to read right now. I’m kind of feeling contemporary, or even just adult fiction since I have a couple books that I want to get to, like the last couple Book of the Month club books.

The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver is one I’ve had since February, but I’ve heard that it is kind of sad, which is why I haven’t picked it up yet. I haven’t been in the mood for a heavy book. But I know I want to get to it at some point. Maybe that time is this month. Who knows.

Last month’s Book of the Month club book I picked was Beach Read by Emily Henry. It seems like an interesting book from what I could tell from the summary. All I really know is that it has to do with two writers with writer’s block. They challenge each other to write in the genre of the other person, which are vastly different.

I just got The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon in the mail today actually. And I’m not too sure what it’s about, but from the synopsis, it sounds pretty cute and fluffy. And that sounds like something that I need right now. Especially after I finish Wolf by Wolf. I’m going to need something light and fluffy.

Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire is a really short book, and one that I know I get through really quickly, especially if I listen to the audiobook.

I really want to continue on with the One Piece series, and I’m on volume 25. This series is one that I just pick up every so often, mainly when I want something quick to read since I can get one volume read in a day or two.

So those are the books that I’m thinking about reading this month. But I’m not sure if I’ll get to all or any of them. It all depends on if I’m in the mood to pick them up at the time. Maybe I’ll do a TBR Update in the middle of the month like I did last month to see where I’m at with these books or if I’ve veered off the list completely.

What are you planning on reading this month? Are you a mood reader? Or do you strictly stick to a TBR every month? I’d love to discuss it in the comments below!

I am a twenty-something-year-old who is an avid reader. I love anything from young adult fantasy to adult fiction to young adult contemporary. I also love to play video games and draw and watch movies and TV shows. And this is my safe space where I can gush about everything I love.
